Mbappe makes history, becomes second player to score a hat-trick in World Cup final match

France forward Kylian Mbappe may not have won the World Cup back-to-back as did his hero, Pele who won in 1958 and 1962, but the Ferenchman book for himself a place in the record books when  became the second player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.

But unlike the first hattrickster of the World Cup did 56 years ago, Mbappe only succeded in draging France back from the brink of defeat against Argentina in extra time on Sunday, leaving both teams tied at 3-3 before going to penalties.

England’s Geoff Hurst was the first player to score three goals in a final when they beat West Germany 4-2 after extra time in 1966.
