When Nigeria’s Flying Eagles play against hosts, Egypt in the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations next Wednesday 22 February at the Cairo International Stadium, the hosts will be without their prolific striker, Sala Basha who was on Tuesday ruled out of the team owing to injury.
Sports Village Square gathered this from an announcement by the Egyptian Football Federation.
“Basha has left the national team training camp due to injury,” the EFA said in a statement without disclosing further details.
Egypt is due to host the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations from 19 February to 11 March.
The 20-year-old Basha, who currently plays for Italian Serie C club Giugliano, announced via instagram that he is suffering from a muscular injury, wishing the best of luck for the Young Pharaohs at the African Cup.
Egypt’s U-20 national team was held to a 1-1 draw against Uganda on Monday amid final preparations for the continental tournament.
Four-time African champions Egypt were drawn in Group A alongside Mozambique, Nigeria and Senegal.
