A former Nigeria tennis star, Sadiq Abdulahi, a professor at Florida International University and Miami Dade College is among a galaxy of tennis personalities invited to the 50th anniversary of the legendary Arthur Ashe visit to South Africa to spread the tennis gospel in Africa.
Arthur Robert Ashe after whom the main arena of the US Open is named, was an American professional tennis player.
He won three Grand Slam titles in singles and two in doubles. Ashe was the first black player selected to the United States Davis Cup team, and the only black man ever to win the singles titles at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open.
Nigeria’s Professor Abdullahi who is also the executive director of Tennis Vision 2030 haas been invited to the occasion marking the 50th anniversary of Ashe in Africa.
He is invited by the Arthur Ashe Legacy at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to celebrate the impact of Arthur Ashe in the spread of tennis in Africa.
The event holds on 16 and 17 November in Washington DC and College Park in Maryland. Abdullahi who represented Nigeria at the Seoul 88 Olympics is to share his wisdom at the event holding at the South African Embassy and the Junior Tennis Champions Center.
